We really enjoyed our visit here this week. It feels like a real gem of a museum...and free for children. My 5 year old daughter loved exploring the different areas and having opportunities to draw, craft, try out print making, sock making and sweet wrapping machines. The volunteers couldn't have been more helpful. They were so informed and eager to share their knowledge of different industries and great with the children. A lovely shop and cafe too. It was such a joy to stumble upon it after a walk around Piece Hall.

This museum has the most amazing items of interest from bygone days. 4 floors to explore! Give yourself plenty of time and take a break at the cafe too! What made our visit so special was the knowledge and interest of the lovely volunteers. Always on hand to chat to you, turn a piece of machinery into something that you can relate to. You really felt looked after. We learnt so much from them and we smiled about where some of our saying come from today! So very interesting. Brilliant staff. Thank you! We will definitely be returning!

Well worth a visit, if only for a great pot of tea.
This place is probably one for the guys, as my wife and daughter decided to sit it out in their cafe, after I’d paid for their admission!
For anyone interested in industrial heritage, then this is the place for you.
On exhibit, there are lots of sleepy dinosaur machines from our industrial revolution and yesteryear. Some of the machines are brought to life by the enthusiastic volunteers who are keen to enlighten you with all the necessary information about the machinery.
Over the four floors there is plenty to see and enjoy, make sure that you check opening times then go and support this wonderful museum.
All this for an admission price of £7.50 each. Oh, to finish your tour, check out their little cafe for a pot of refreshing Yorkshire tea £2 per person, winner!

Absolutely loved it! Extremely interesting and the volunteers are so welcoming and really want to share with you all information they may have, with demonstration. Definitely recommend even with kids.
Only point to improve is to have some documents in other languages, my parents came from France but no document translated for them so I did the translation of all documents and comments from the volunteers during the tour.

Amazing! Volunteer run, who genuinely care and are knowledgeable about all their own particular areas. They would offer information, demonstration of how a particular exhibit or piece of machinery might work.
There is even a man there who is a carver of wood, who very kindly made our daughter a lovely owl for us to take home.
It was £7.50 for an adult, kids under 3 are free. Various other discounts and tariffs for students etc..
All money goes back into the running of the museum and tbh, places like this genuinely need our support otherwise we loose them (it was actually closed for around 13 years in the early 2000's, due to lack of funding)
Anyways check it out! It's a great day and the library and Piece Hall are just next door!
