Sadly, little remains of Dunbar's glorious past. Despite rebuilding the castle and ramparts three times, Dunbar eventually fell into disrepair. What remains is a fishing village. Crayfishing is now an important occupation.

This is a fascinating place to visit and worth the visit for the views out to sea. Dunbar Battery was built to defend Dunbar. It was never used for that purpose. At one time there was a hospital built to serve infectious diseases. It served during the Word Wars. At some point after it fell into disrepair and the roof blew off in a storm. The hospital was destroyed and Dunbar Battery was abandoned. Thankfully, it was restored and we can enjoy the views. You will also discover a table listing some of the vessels lost at sea. I am certainly glad I came for a look.

Really nice place to stop and chill for a bit. Nice views out across the water. Benches to sit on. You can sit and look into the harbour or go climb on the rocks out to the water. Not a lot of parking spaces but a larger carpark further up the hill on the main road.

Historical defensive structure, witness of the most difficult times of Dunbar. The craggy coast and the nearby rocky islands give an idea of how it was vital to properly defend this harbour. The cannons, now silenced for long time, welcome the visitor and explain, in a softer tone than before, their heroic deeds.

Love the harbour usually eating there. But as in other places, council allowing too many campervans using all parking spaces

This was our first time visiting the Battery since its opening in 2017. A spectacular setting and a great stage for the local community to use and for local exhibitions, such as the current John Muir exhibition. Our kids loved playing with the mirror boxes and 'performing' on the stage. Definitely a highlight for our visit, along with the wonderful harbour and castle.
