Stay away, no matter how good the offer looks. Everything is so slow. I had my written confirmation that my contract term had ended 5 weeks ago and i could switch without paying a fee, now in my final bill, I've been charged an early exit fee. No reply to customer services emails on the 2 occasions I've used them previously. Guy on the phone was very helpful but not sure the tasks were actioned to my account now.
Update: 02/02/24 just received a letter claiming to be the third correspondence (its not, its the first) and that my overdue account will be handed to a debt collection agency. Had to phone to be told my account is fine and to ignore the letter, its automated and no one checks to make sure its accurate before being sent. CLOWNS!

Absolutely terrible company to work with. They sent me an electric bill corresponding to a period I wasn't even living in the property. After reaching out to their support, they asked for proof, which I promptly provided. They never got back to me and are still charging the same amount incorrectly. Even if they resolve the issue as soon as tomorrow in the morning, my opinion here wouldn't change. Please, do not engage with them or provide any personal details. They somehow managed to "create" an account under my name before I was even living in Northern Ireland (and I've never had an account with Electric Ireland before). Avoid at all costs for you own good.

Don't believe any of Electric Ireland's offers. Clearly stipulated first 12 months at a specific rate. 2 weeks in and the rate jumps an extra 10p per kwh. Called them and was told it said in T&C's that the rate is subject to change. Therefore I didn't even get the advertised rate for a period of 2 weeks, let alone 12 months. Avoid at all costs, I was with SSE for 3 years and no issues. Will be leaving Electric Ireland asap. As well as this, I still haven't received a copy of my contract, a few months in. Have asked on two occasions for it to be emailed, still nothing. And it's not available in your online account, which is shady.

If I could give a "zero star" rating I would.

Rang yesterday to ask for my account number as I had not been sent it by email. Account number then emailed to me.

Used the link in the welcome email that I got on 2 Nov to register my account. Error message pops up stating the account number and MPRN did not match.

Called back and spoke to a female who was unable to resolve the issue and stated that it would need to go to the IT dept and said it could take up to 14 days. Told her that wasn't acceptable and I asked to speak to a supervisor. She told me that no managers were in yet, it was after 10:30. I asked for a manager to call me as soon as one came in.

Better still she then tried to blame me for leaving it until the 12 Dec to phone. I explained that I had waited for their email that had not arrived. She was constantly talking over me so I raised my voice and she promptly said "I'm going to terminate the call now" and hung up.

Tried calling back and selected the option for a call back. No call back. No call from a manager.

Sent an email entitled "Complaint".

Totally regret making the decision to switch to this company.

Further to the reply:

I rang the call centre this morning and was told by the call handler that he would pass it on to his manager. Have I had a call? NO.

I WON'T HOLD MY BREATH.

Latest:

After eventually receiving a call from a manager I have switched and escalated the complaint to the Consumer Council.

Avoid this company at all costs.

Update as of 5 Jan 2023:

Issue with account still not resolved. They cannot tell me what my initial / final bill is or will be.

Why would anyone who reads the recent reviews even consider switching to this supplier?

Update as of 25 Jan 2023:

Complaint resulted in an initial gesture of goodwill of £50. A further £50 was added when scheduled call backs were not received.

If you are not happy with the service then don't sit back and take it!

Customer service is awful, they failed to set up my monthly direct debt correctly when I joined. I spent months try to get it resloved and by the time they finally did a sizeable billing debt had bulit up on my account. Thier only response to this was "you'd need to just pay more each month to clear it". Will be leaving as soon as my years fixed price is up.

In August 22 we had an Electric Ireland sales rep call at our home and after his sales pitch told us if we changed to them as a provider it would be a special fixed rate for 12 months.
Worst decision I ever made, this was basically a scam as my rate continues to go up from 26p per unit to 37p from today. Other providers are much
cheaper.
We have 1 month of the contract left. Customer service were unable to help when I told them we had been promised a lower rate for the 12 months. They just said we will log your complaint.
Basically avoid this supplier and don't let the electric Ireland sales person in your front door as they lie to get you to sign up and Customer service don't want to know.

I decided to explore other options for a better deal and called to inquire about the process since I was currently in a one-year contract. I was informed that the switch would take approximately a week. Therefore, I proposed initiating the switch before the contract's end date to ensure a smooth transition. They agreed. However, I initiated the process just one working day before the contract's end on November 14th. To my surprise, they charged me early exit fees, which appears to be a recurring concern for others as well. I plan to report this to the consumer council. This is truly disappointing!

Do yourself a favour and don’t ever sign up with Electric Ireland. They’ve consistently upped their prices while other providers don’t. Customer service is unreachable and you’ll be waiting for hours before you can speak to someone. Emails remain unanswered, just like official complaints. Couldn’t be happier to have switched to another company.
