Core Specialties and Services

The company identifies itself through several key roles and specializations:

  • Manufacturer: At its core, Graphite Additive Manufacturing is a manufacturer, utilizing additive manufacturing (3D printing) techniques to produce parts and components.
  • Architectural and Engineering Model Maker: A significant portion of their business involves creating highly accurate scale models for architectural visualization, engineering analysis, and presentation purposes. These models require precision and detail, areas where the company excels.
  • Design Engineer: The company likely incorporates design engineering principles into their workflow, potentially offering services beyond simple printing, such as design consultation, optimization for additive manufacturing, and potential prototyping to test design iterations.
  • Motorsports Store: This designation is intriguing; it suggests a specific focus or niche within the motorsports industry. This could involve producing lightweight, high-strength parts for racing, custom fabrication, or even replicas and display items for motorsport businesses.
  • Print Shop: This term, adapted from traditional printing, highlights their capability to produce multiple, identical items efficiently using additive manufacturing, catering to clients needing numerous copies of the same design.

Their service model appears comprehensive, covering everything from initial design considerations (as hinted by feedback suggesting potential guidance on material selection) to the final production and delivery of parts or models. Their ability to offer diverse services caters effectively to a broad spectrum of industrial and specialized applications.

Business Environment and Customer Experience

Graphite Additive Manufacturing places considerable emphasis on customer satisfaction, a factor highlighted by their 5/5 average rating across 173 Google My Business reviews. The feedback received offers valuable insights into the customer experience:

  • Delivery performance is often praised, with instances of orders arriving ahead of scheduled timelines.
  • While quality can vary depending on the specific application and material used, it is generally deemed 'good enough' for the intended purpose, indicating a focus on meeting functional requirements rather than necessarily pushing the absolute limits of material science for all applications (as one review suggests a learning curve for customers unfamiliar with material properties).
  • Communication and packaging are frequently mentioned as strengths. Customers appreciate the protective packaging used for shipping delicate items like models, ensuring they arrive safely.
  • The company is noted for providing excellent service and support, fostering positive client relationships.

Practical considerations for visiting or contacting the company include the availability of a wheelchair-accessible car park, ensuring accessibility for all customers. Furthermore, they accept common payment methods, including debit and credit cards, simplifying the transaction process.

When approaching Graphite Additive Manufacturing, potential clients should clearly communicate their specific requirements, including material preferences, desired tolerances, finish levels, and intended application. Understanding the capabilities and limitations of graphite as an additive manufacturing material is crucial for achieving successful outcomes.

Understanding Graphite as a Material

Graphite itself is a fascinating material, known for its unique properties including high thermal stability, electrical conductivity, self-lubricating qualities, and excellent strength-to-weight ratio when structurally designed correctly. Utilizing graphite in additive manufacturing opens up possibilities for parts that cannot be easily achieved with plastics or metals in certain applications. However, it also presents challenges related to powder handling, consolidation processes (if used in powder form), and achieving the desired density and mechanical properties. The expertise of Graphite Additive Manufacturing in navigating these aspects is a key differentiator.

The Additive Manufacturing Process

While the specific technology employed by Graphite Additive Manufacturing isn't detailed in the provided information, companies in this field typically utilize processes like Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS), Selective Laser Melting (SLM), or Binder Jetting for metal/graphite composites, or similar techniques adapted for graphite/carbon fiber reinforced polymers. The choice of process significantly impacts the final part's density, strength, surface finish, and potential post-processing requirements. The company's role involves selecting the most appropriate technology and parameters for each client's specific need.

Excellent service and arrived slightly before ordered date. Quality wasn't as good as I hoped, however good enough for needed application. (I think this may be due to my fault not understanding which solution would provide the highest quality prints, perhaps a section of the site suggesting appropriate materials for certain applications might be sensible). They provided the prints / miniatures in an extremely impressive printed protective shell which was great.

Exceeded expectations again and again. 3D Print Direct is by far the best 3D printing company i have ever used. I recently ordered 57 parts using the 6 week order time and i have received them just 10 days later. Exceptional quality and flexible pricing options. Always quick to respond to any questions i have and to inform me of potential problems with my designs being to thin for the printers limitations.

Excellent customer service and help, from start to finish, for my 3D print project. I couldn't be more thrilled with the final result and they even threw in a key ring version too. I can highly recommend this company for your 3d printing projects!

Previously had these parts printed which didn't come out at the highest quality elsewhere. Came across you when someone posted on a forum I'm a member of and thought I would give it a shot! Must say, the quality of the print was great, the fit is perfect and they look like they will be more than up to the job.. Will be getting a couple of other bits done in future with you guys I think!

Edit 2020: Bought a couple of the Covid Tools! Nicely put together and looking forward to using them 🙂

First part had an issue due to my model not being within the capabilities of the printer due to some print limitations I was not made aware of initially. Customer service (Samuel) was excellent with dealing with the issue, and told me exactly what I needed to do to make my part "printable". After adjusting my model I was sent the replacement part within a matter of days free of charge and the print quality was very good. I'd give the overall experience (ease of ordering through the website/customer service/punctuality with deadlines) a 10/10. Print quality was very good but not perfect, I'd give it a 9/10. Would definitely recommend this service.

Excellent customer service, high quality parts at a low price.

I needed a few test prints to check the material properties (PA12) were right for my parts and Alexei gave me a detailed description of everything i needed to know before i ordered. They arrived within the time frame selected and are flawless.

I look forward to ordering more in the near future.
