UPDATE JAN 2025: After my initial review, Pacifica got in touch and arranged for an engineer to finally complete the job of refitting the oven glass. I decided to give them one last chance.
A couple weeks later, the engineer arrived again. He quickly discovered that he didn't have the tool needed to remove the oven door from the main unit and said the job description he'd been given didn't include all the details that would have indicated this specific tool was needed. Luckily he found a similar tool in his kit that he was able to use instead and was finally able to replace the glass. It looked as if there was finally an end to this ordeal in sight.
Now that the oven glass was in place, we could finally test whether the element that had been replaced months before would trip the circuit. Within two minutes, the power went out.
The engineer then said that he could see that the main element and fan element needed replacing. Pity that hadn't been noticed on any of his many previous callouts. But Pacifica agreed to do this work without any further charge, so again I extended my goodwill and optimism and gave them another last chance.
Several weeks later, in late November, the engineer came back ... with only one of the two elements they said they'd supply. He replaced the one element, the circuit tripped and, after further investigation, he decided it would be necessary to replace the electrical components in the control dials of the oven. This would result in all possible causes of the problem being replaced.
Pacifica then sent me a quote for £260 for the element they said they'd supply without charge and the new parts that had been ordered. I reminded them that they had agreed not to charge for the element. I said I would be willing to pay for the additional parts in the control dials AFTER the job was completed and my oven functioning again. That was in early December and they have not followed up.
Fortunately, I have a double oven, with one oven still working fine, so this job was never super urgent. However, I never imagined it would still be unfinished after almost an entire year.
Unfortunately, there seem to be very few engineers willing to work on Britannia ovens; the engineer said there was a health and safety dispute that ended with a lot of their staff leaving. Also, Pacifica apparently bought up a lot of small service providers (including Capital Repairs, the company I originally booked the job with) and their processes have been in chaos ever since.
When/if I get around to trying to sort this problem out again, I'll check whether any suppliers I'm considering are part of Pacifica and if so, I'll take my business elsewhere. I'd advise you to do the same.
-----
Oct 2024: I contacted Capital Repairs/Pacifica back in March of 2024 when I needed two problems sorted: 1) an oven element needed replacing and 2) a loose oven glass needed to be remounted onto the oven door. I paid for the necessary parts and then waited and waited for an engineer to return and fix the problems. Multiple appointments were cancelled and it wasn't until the end of May that they returned to do the repairs. The oven element was replaced but the glass could not be fixed because they had only ordered one bracket and two were needed. Again, I was told that there was an issue getting the required part.
At least two more appointments were scheduled between June and September (including one when I was on holiday, without them even checking my availability first), and every one of them was cancelled at the last minute. In September, I finally asked for a refund of the parts I had paid for. I was told this would take ten days and now, several weeks later, I still have not been refunded. In the interim, I received another text that an engineer would be coming and then, of course, no one turned up. Save yourself the misery and use another company. Capital Repairs/Pacifica has felt like a scam and I will be registering a complaint with them, though I have no expectation it will ever be dealt with.
