I don't know how southern water is still in business !!!
They charge what they like and do not reply at all to emails, But can happily send bills monthly evan if you have vacated the rental property over half a year ago. It's examples like this that helped me take my decision to leave England and relocate to Europe. Where customer service e is taken alot more seriously

I believe that current water companies, such as Southern Water, should be opened up and challenged by an open competitive market, as like British Gas was. While they are a solo organisation they continue to believe they can charge what they like, and the reasoning / excuses behind their up front charges before you even use a tap of water, is becoming to an extreme, ie wastage, which is recognised as more than you have used, drainage, when the sewers etc, are not being maintained to complete satisfaction, and highway drainage What is that about, unless there is something there is something they would like to tell us! Recognised in the latest bill as an invoiced balance of £142.86, before you have even used a tap of water. In addition to the daily charges and litre square meter of charges, inclusive against the amount of water charged. No decent customer service what so ever when querying an amended reading of invoice, other than cough up upon release of invoice, before the actual amended has been provided. No chat line available, is this deliberate for a dictatorship and coercion of payment whether you approve of the quality of service or not, and therefore unless by telephone, which is also expensive enough, and therefore no accurate record or copy of the conversation held with them, until such time they se'f you a bailiff threatening letter as soon as an invoice is released. Maybe Southern Water would like to provide comment on why such extremeties are being handled with a non care of a decent customer service, particularly when by-passed via another organisation.

Adelaide Crescent this morning. Every winter the drains overflow. Children wade through overflowing sewage at the school on Somerhill Road, St Anne’s Park is a quagmire, and the run off in Palmeira and Adelaide is non existent. The drains are never cleaned out. There is no routine maintenance. My downstairs neighbour’s flat was flooded out last Christmas and they pumped the coal cellar where our sewage was going twice a day for nearly a year rather than fixing the problem. My neighbour is ill and was decanted for months. We had local elections last year and the councillors and hopefuls met with the residents group who are trying to get this sorted out but after the election… nothing. I get sewage alerts about the state of the beach and swimming water every time it rains. Management and shareholders are doing ok, though, eh?

51% increase to bill from April 2025 despite letting more water leak from pipes and discharging more sewerage into our waterways and sea. It is clear to me that OFWAT is not fit for purpose.

287% increase in bills for moving house, same amount of people live here, same amount of water being used, but just a 287% increase is the only difference

I can’t believe 299 bill from 29 April
To 20 September when I was call to them
They say there is leakage may be external or internal I can’t believe if there is any leakage they have to tell me before but there is no any leakage then they told me to do one week reading test after that they check what’s the wrong with that such a ridicules.
35-40 pound water bill per month in England and it was a 99 per month sorry to say am not a fool
To pay that much amount

If you have an issue try the phone customer service. The online registration needs a complete overhaul.
It would be good to have recieved some more proactive customer contact, rather than their first letter being a disconnection warning.

My two stars go exclusively to the nice lady who helped me on the phone.

Utilities are natural monopolies, and as such should not be sold to private organisations for them to extract profit. They should be run by community organisations tasked with minimising total costs (including environmental degradation as one of those costs) and maximising community benefit. There should be no profit made on providing the essentials for life.
