The Mill House Ecology Centre should not be confused with the Mill House Steak Restaurant next to it that's run by Miller & Carter. The latter was originally the miller's house, i.e. the person who worked the windmill, the base of which can be seen in the restaurant's car park. The entrance to this car park separates the two buildings.

The Mill House Ecology Centre has its own car park, which is between it and the Windmill Road.

The Centre has leaflets and maps of Mitcham Common available (free), just knock on the door at the right hand side of the building during normal office hours.

A notice board is on display in the car park. It's worth reading the notices, to check for anything recent that may affect your visit to the Common. For example there is a warning about the Oak Processionary Moth. If you come across an infected tree on the Common it will be taped off and it's advisable not to go near it.

The notice board also has information about the volunteer organisation, The Friends of Mitcham Common.

Usually a lovely place to walk but today I witnessed 2 large Bully type dogs destroying a tree under the supervision of their female owner. What a shame some people have no respect for nature.
