I signed a business energy contract with Clear Business and quickly realised (within a day) I had made a mistake. The contract doesn’t even begin until three months down the line, yet when I contacted them to cancel well in advance, I was told I cannot.

This means I am being forced into a 3-year contract months before it even starts.

The prices are also quite high compared to other suppliers, making this even more unfair. And even though I have been a customer with them for over 5 years, I am still being treated this way.

Very poor flexibility, lack of transparency, and no consideration for small business owners. I would strongly advise others to think carefully before signing with Clear Business.

AVOID AT ALL COST !!!

Was with this company over 3 years. When you pay monthly dd everything is fine. When you pay by phone etc. They charge extra £10. When contract finishes they do not phone you with better deal. Instead without notice they automatically increase you by rocket prices. In Scotland first 25sq of water are free, but they charge for every single usage. The service over the phone is very poor too when most customer service rep.are from India etc. The best thing is when you want to finish contract the standard procedure by them is to charge you about £1000 final bill when you just paid by monthly dd about £40. When I supplied my final readings to them and new suppliers with proof, they still wanted this huge amount.

-very bad customer service with no chance to solve issue
-automatically increase prices at least by 100% when you do not renew itself
-overcharge by late payments, pay by phone not direct debit

Most of it isn't good - billing especially proved testing, and trying to close the account after selling the business was hard work, at least it was until Ryan on the chat help came to my rescue! Can't praise him enough for patiently walking me through the process / form. Friendly, professional, and kind. Much appreciated.

Absolutely appalling company. Renegotiated my telecoms contract in April. They still charged the original amount in May. Was told to cancel direct debit as my account was in a lot of credit. Since then I have spent over 14 hours on the phone to them, each time being assured the problem was sorted only to receive a credit notification, followed by a demand for money that I don't owe, and the last two months, the notification of a large credit... followed by a final demand and my telephone service suspended. This has been going on for 5 months and I have it in writing from them that they failed to sort the issues.... yet I am currently without a telephone line still. Ombudsman on Monday. I would seriously advise anyone to avoid ClearBusiness like the plague.

Avoid Clear Business – Unfair Contract and Ridiculous Termination Fee

I regret ever signing up with Clear Business. When I decided to leave, I was shocked to be hit with a termination fee of over £1000 – despite only paying £15 per month for my card terminal rental.

This fee is completely disproportionate and feels like a punishment for leaving. The contract terms are buried in fine print, and there was no clear warning about automatic renewals or the outrageous early exit penalties. It feels like they’re holding me to ransom just for trying to leave a service I no longer need.

Customer service has been unhelpful and dismissive, simply quoting the contract without any willingness to compromise. I will be raising a formal complaint and will escalate to the Financial Ombudsman and Trading Standards if nothing gets resolved.

If you’re a small business owner, do not trust this company. Check every line of the contract—and even then, think twice. I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone.

I had a terrible experience with this…
I had a terrible experience with this company. I closed my small business 2 months ago and I tried to close the contract, they keep sending me bills, not letting me close the contract. I spoke with 4 different people and I explained many times that I have already paid the final bill. They now said to close it I have to pay another £240 . I phoned the second time they told me they could find the last payment, then they found it. I phone again, they tell me to fill up the form. Still bills keep coming. I phone again, now there is an information missing on the form. My account is still not closed!They don't communicate between different departments, don't join them!

To say I am seething, is putting it mildly. I can't fault the operatives, it's those who push the buttons, & deal with accounts I have an issue with! Thank heavens I only have my water supply with them. In Oct 2023 I went from a limited company to a sole trader. I notified Clear Business, I successfully changed the bank details, all good. Could still view the portal, bills being paid. Fast forward March 2025, I receive a letter welcoming me to Clear Business, I rang them, actually laughed and said your several years behind, I am already a customer. Gave my account details. Apparently in June 2024 they had closed that account? So it's taken 9 months to notify the customer of this? Seriously? Apparently it's because I have gone from LTD, to Sole trader, I totally get that, however, not to notify me? What horrified me, is the operative saying, I'll need to check that the monies being paid, can be transferred to your new account!?!! Are you serious? Your error, not mine! I am currently seeking another provider.
So fast forward to May 2025....the company had been. ringing me informing me I owed them money, from June 2024. I can't begin to tell you how many times I repeated the story of becoming a sole trader. Luckily I backed up all the phone calls with an email, giving them chapter & verse. Finally in the middle of May I spoke to a sensible person, I begged her to find all my emails, and get back to me, as I refused to repeat my experience. Two days later, the same lady rang me back, full of apologies, and guess what, I am I right, & surprise surprise, they were incorrect!!! This made my holiday, as I was away in Malta. This lovely person put it all in writing, gave me a £70 credit. The portal has been updated, & my anxiety levels have been reduced! All over miscommunication. Seriously Clear Business, get your act together, it isn't difficult.

Don't ever Get services from Clearbusiness Then worst company services ever
Been using clear business for a while in the starting days i was being chared for someone's electric bill on my direct debit so i changes to mobile pay and for sometime the things were okay. Now they ask ma to pay the bills that I have already paid, Given them a proof and then they asked me to pay the bill for September which is not end yet and not due they stopped my services, I even don't have any bills due.
I tried to contact them the call service team is rude didn't even listen to me what I was saying just keep telling me his own things...

non-tolorated behaviour just don't not Go with their services save your time and energy becaus they only wants you to do a contract and then they just don't care..
