Audi Bolton – A Frustrating and Disappointing Experience

I recently purchased an Audi A4 Estate Black Edition from Audi Bolton, and the entire experience was frustrating, misleading, and unprofessional. From manipulative sales tactics to poor customer service, I feel compelled to warn others.

Misleading Sales Tactics & Lack of Transparency

I initially spoke to James, who assured me that Audi Bolton would “look after us” and offer a good deal if we visited on Friday. The next day, he backtracked and refused to negotiate. When I suggested coming on Saturday or Monday instead (due to our 150-mile journey from Gloucester), he made excuses and pressured us into visiting Friday.

It later became clear why—Friday was the last day of the month and James’s commission deadline. Instead of prioritizing customer needs, James manipulated us into coming solely for his sales target.

Poor Customer Experience at the Dealership

After traveling over three hours, we had to wait 30 minutes because the car wasn’t ready. When James finally brought it out, the car was wet, including the front seats—I had to request a cover before testing it. To make matters worse:
‱ The car’s documents were unprepared.
‱ The manual was missing; we were later handed a grease-stained copy from another car.
‱ James claimed Audi was only making £70 on the sale—an insulting and absurd statement.

Pressured for a Five-Star Review

James tried to manipulate our review, telling my wife that unless we gave him five stars, he wouldn’t receive his commission. He even suggested that a low rating would mean Audi would take money away from him. This is unacceptable—reviews should reflect real experiences, not be forced out of guilt.

Key Information Withheld – Fuel Tank Capacity

Two days after purchasing the car, I discovered the fuel tank capacity was only 40 liters—significantly smaller than standard and unsuitable for our long-distance travel needs. At no point was this disclosed, despite us discussing our driving habits with James.

When I raised this with the head of the business, his response was dismissive. He stated I was responsible for choosing the car and should have known what I was buying. A non-standard fuel tank size should be disclosed—it’s not solely the buyer’s responsibility to research every variation of a car’s specs when purchasing from a professional dealership.

Lack of Follow-Through on Promises

James initially agreed to replace or remove a cracked Audi badge but later backtracked. He also promised a replacement badge, but that never happened. A week after purchase, I was still chasing essential documents like the Audi warranty and roadside assistance, which should have been provided immediately.

Response from Audi Bolton – Dismissive and Unsatisfactory

When I raised my concerns, Audi Bolton responded with a dismissive and defensive email, denying any wrongdoing. They downplayed my complaints and blamed me for not asking about the fuel tank size, even though it was never mentioned.

The fact that the car has a 40-liter fuel tank—smaller than standard—was not disclosed at any stage of the sale. Instead of taking accountability, they shifted the blame onto me, implying I should have known.

Their response made it clear that customer satisfaction is not a priority at Audi Bolton.

My experience with Audi Bolton was deeply disappointing. The sales tactics were manipulative, customer service was poor, and their response to my complaint was dismissive. The head of the business even blamed me for not knowing the car’s specifications rather than admitting their failure.

The fact that we were pressured into coming on Friday purely because it was James’s commission deadline shows how little they value customers once a sale is made.

Shocking Customer Service-
I had to wait 6 weeks to get my car serviced, MOT'd and a courtesy car provided (mobility issues). Email confirmation received. Turned up today to be told they has no record of my appointment and I would have to wait another 2 months! MOT about to expire! adblue running out! Waited twenty minutes to be told issue and another twenty minutes for a supervisor to no bother turing up!!!

So I took a week off work to get stuff done - car service, opticians etc
. Booked weeks ago for service and leak in boot. Loan car agreed. Dropped off at 8am on Tuesday 29 October to be told loan car not available but one might be available later in day. I did ask why did no one call yesterday to let me know and the reply was ‘I wish they had”.

Went home waited all day for a call - had to ring dealership several times. Takes forever for anyone to answer and Mark the manager must be the busiest manager ever because he is always in a meeting and never returns calls.

Sadly the same can be said for Michael in service who also said he would ring me back on countless occasions and failed to do so. Finally today I’ve said I won’t be using Bolton Audi again and it would be so much better if maybe people just communicated open and honestly with you.

I also asked if anyone else had been given a loan car, to which he replied yes I gave one today, he couldn’t answer the question well why wasn’t I a priority? So I get that it’s easier to upset one customer than a weeks worth but a bit of honesty would be helpful.

I’ve had to chase 8 times in 3 days and spent a total of 40 mins being passed from pillar to post.

Worst customer service I’ve ever experienced in a car dealership, staff either don’t care or there are not enough of them to do the job properly. It’s not as if it’s a budget car brand is it

Absolutely disgusted with their behaviour , dropped my car of the day before it was book in as couldn’t make first thing. Was told they would contact me to give me an update and let me know when it was ready. It was only going in-for a software update. No phone call all day, phoned 3 times taking over 10 minutes to answer on 2 occasions that last they didn’t even bother to answer. Was told they would call me back within 10 minutes
