I was always with Octopus but recently bought a house that happened to be with British Gas, and all my experiences so far have been awful.
I had to call the engineer to fix a gas cooker issue, he came twice but did not knock the door or call me and just left a note in the box and drove off. I even tried to chase him down the road but he just ignored me. Rebooked the third time, the guy came, basically disabled my entire gas saying something about a drop in lead pipes, and left me without heating and hot water. I had been using the heat and water fine for months as the issue was only isolated to the hob, but this guy was absolutely horrible and didn’t care about leaving me to freeze in the middle of Feb. Said he would sent an email about the quote for redoing the pipes within 10 mins but of course, that never came. He was also rude overall and didn’t care that it was winter. There was absolutely no reason to cut off the whole supply when it was just a hob issue and the lead pipes needed replacing. Not even a gas leak to warrant leaving me freezing without heating or hot water in the middle of winter and then just leaving without a solution.

When I called British Gas they were overall very unhelpful.

So the solution to this problem is to screw British Gas, I immediately switched my suppliers over to octopus as I refuse to give these clowns any more time or money, and called an independent local Gas Engineer whom I had good experience with before and does pipe work, and who offered to come same day to have a look and help.

So overall, British Gas are the absolute worst, very poor service, unfriendly and also overpriced. I would recommend them to no one, as there are a million better companies out there.

I booked a boiler service with British gas. On the day they did not even attempt to visit the prophecy and I just got a text message saying the engineered visited and no one was at home. The call centre staff were rude and put the phone down when I tried to discuss this with them, when I call the back they then try to tell me I did not have a booking I offered to email them the booking confirmation but they couldn't find an email I could send it to..........

As a landlord I despise having to deal with British gas...as per usual there's no direct line as your bounced around before finally speaking to the rudest person I have ever dealt with who proceeded to tell me that I was personally responsible for a previous tenants unpaid utility bill! After asking to speak to someone else he hung up on me!!!! Call them again and spoke to a lady who said it was all sorted only to get an email 5 hours later asking for further information...to them be told at the bottom of the email everything is resolved!!! WHAT EVEN IS THIS COMPANY ABSOLUTE WASTE OF TIME!!!!

Giving them 1 star is too generous. I’ve never spoken to such rude people in my entire life. They have no care for their customers what so ever and refuse to listen to you. They also send out false bills with false information and when you contact them about this they hand up on you. I’d avoid at all costs, absolutely horrendous!!!

We had three appointments fir British gas to come out to.1st one no one turned up 2nd one no one turned up same with 3rd appointment. Electric meter has broken so don't if it will take money of the key . The staff never rang to apologise they just didn't show. All this was over Xmas period. We are going to change to another company and pay by direct debit what a messy service British gas you should be ashamed .I'm sure you won't be though . Cancelling my boiler cover too .. 10out of 10 for ignorance

When a parent dies, dealing with all the administration at the same time as the bereavement is especially tough. In my experience, the banks and the utility companies handle the extra complexity of the situation very well with dedicated teams and contact numbers. But not British Gas. No dedicated phone line. No experienced team who understand the issues and can solve problems. Delay, contact by email only, repeatedly asking the same question. Overall very poor. Overall, very disappointing.

Awful and rude customer services today. Had a closing balance request for electricity saying that £280 was left to pay this is after already paying my bills, on time monthly. They said based on the smart meter readings this is what was left. I asked what I had used and she said £96 per month's worth, I said I was already paying £93 as standard. She said that the money I was paying was to cover the previous bill generated in july, which had a balance of £108 in credit so they owed me! I asked if I had been using an additional £90 odd in electricity over the last three months and she said no. She said I simply didn't understand and that this extra £280 was due, I asked to speak to someone else as based on what she went through with me on the phone they owe me £5. I was told I was rude and could not speak to someone else. Would never use this "company again" and by the looks of all the other negative reviews I am not alone

Ordered a new boiler, cleared the finance, had it delivered, that's the positive over... engineer turned up to install it, didn't know where the earth was so left without installing it, we've heard nothing since except an attempt to collect the new boiler rather than sending someone who knew what they were doing to install it, now it's been sat behind my front door for nearly a month & we've heard nothing... shocking service from such a so called reputable company
