We ordered over £100 worth of sockets and switches in readiness for our new kitchen to be installed and they arrived with no problem.
When the kitchen fitter arrived to install the new kitchen he informed me I'd ordered a couple of wrong switches.
I contacted Gil-Lec to see if I could return the 2 items and order the correct switches which are unopened in their original packaging.
Gil Lec informed me I could only return the items within 14 days and this had expired and to contact Hamiltons where the switches came from.
We contacted Hamiltons but they said it was up to Gil Lec to take the switches back and re-order as that is where we purchased them.
I wanted to be prepared and have everything ready for the kitchen installer so was unable to comply with the 14 day rule but contacted them as soon as the fitter advised me they needed to be changed.
I would hardly call this good customer service.

Not overly impressed with the service.!!
I waited over 2 weeks after payment (30th March) and hadn't received either my items nor any confirmation of purchase. I phoned and was told one item (extractor fan) was on back order and had been on order since January!
The assistant then said he would look into it and ring me back....., but didn't.
I phoned again the following day and received the same reply from a different assistant, who also said she would ring me back...., but didn't.!
I did however receive an email later that day, offering me an alternative fan. So i accepted and asked Gil-lec to proceed with my order. A few days later delivery was made, but unfortunately one of the items had not been picked and dispatched.
I emailed asking an update and whether the item would be sent, only to find that my contact was on holiday and not back until next week. However the automated email did give me another contact address, but I can only guess that it had been spelt incorrectly as there was no such address, and my email was returned 'undeliverable', or should I say "Unbelievable" 🙄😠. Still waiting.....

sending the wrong item. when i try to solve the problem, they didnt take any responsibility and wanted to charge me for returning the item, very rude staff and dodgy pepol ... poor customer service

Reasonably priced but wait...

I am an astute buyer. I have lived in both the Northern & Southern hemisphere. I like to buy the best quality for the lowest price. I, like many others have found (especially recently) that quality comes at a cost. I don't have faith in many other companies (apart from one very large one that likes to fix things with a screw) and I also don't like to pay top dollar.

I used to think that local-centric companies like this were a waste of time but I am converted and I don't think we realise the importance of the individual attention they can offer.

Firstly, we all think we are refurb kings. Our Father (or Mothers) had the attitude of "Just Do It" (before N*ke), and we just got on with it, especially with the help of YouTube.

The REASON I buy from Gil-Lec is they HAVE the knowledge, the expertise and the experience to provide the best solution. They also (and in my opinion most importantly) give great after sales support. They retail products they believe in.
Yes I can buy x LED Downlights elsewhere, but have they been tried and tested? Is that CE mark just a sales ploy within a high profile online sales company and what the heck happened to the BS KiteMark?
I would rather fit out my house with an expert and answerable company like Gil-Lec that takes responsibility for the products they recommend and sell, than risk the associated problems that may arise from sales companies that take no responsibility for the products they merely retail.

As an after note: Before writing this review I have seen some negative opinions, and I can't argue with that. We all have our own experiences. I would like to mention however, that for (what seems like the last decade) I have always had great customer service and in particular from a chap named Russell. He has always "gone beyond" when it comes to customer care and has taken responsibility if there is an issue rather than shy away. A true gent and how business should be done.

So to summarize... You could possibly buy marginally cheaper online, but for me, after sales is king. I don't mind paying for excellence.
