Me and my boyfriend flew in from Ireland to visit my family in Scotland. We chose green motion through a 3rd party website. We did not see the small print that said that green motion doesn’t accept debit cards unless you purchase full package. We were told this in person due to customers removing money from their debit accounts so I am only posting 4 stars not 5 for that reason and we then had to pay way more than we thought we had to pay. (That may have been our fault for not reading the small and I mean small print on 3rd party website) We then had to go away and think about it as this was a significant amount more than we had put aside for our rental. The car itself was immaculate and drove perfectly. Ruth was the woman who checked us in and I have to say she was very welcoming and polite. She was even good enough to re-activate our booking after going away to think about it. She even gave us an upgrade on the car. So because of how friendly Ruth was to us and she seemed very empathetic to our situation, we will return. On returning the car, there were no issues and I was told to pop the keys into a wee box outside the exit door. Easy transfer to airport too! Thank you Ruth! X

Warning they advertised a Berlingo or VW caddy type 2 seat panel van where when you arrive there is only a big van. They confirmed they do not have any type advertised (it was not that it was booked, they advertise a vehicle type they don't have any of) They need to change image or description as it has cost me half a day and transport cost to get to the airport. I needed a small van or car as where I was moving had height restrictions - they did offer me a car but at literally over 3 x the price..
The staff were nice aside from the manager who was abrupt and rude to customers.
The van looked fine and they would likely get more bookings for it if they advertised correctly.. or maybe it's deliberately cheap so they can charge customers 3x the price for a car once they are there..

Worst rental experience I’ve had. šŸ™ Car was really expensive compare to the size and quality. I paid for Full Cover Plus insurance — but when I hit an invisible pothole in the rain and damaged a tire, they refused to cover it. I followed all instructions, called their assistance line, used the service they provided — yet they declined reimbursement because the replacement tire "wasn’t the same brand," something I had no control over.
Be very careful — their ā€œfull plusā€ insurance is full of excuses.

Rude. Penny Pinching. Underhanded.

Similar to other reviews. I would not recommend this company, the underhand nature of sales people and nickel and diming of customers leaves such a bad taste

- our CC covers the insurance. however the salesman repeatedly told me
I MUST buy theirs or ā€˜I legally could not take the car’. This was a lie and I had to repeatedly argue with them before they agreed.

- the staff were rude and condescending on pick up to both us and the couple next to us.

- drop was the same … rude and unorganized

-NB watch out the mileage limit (which is significantly less that others) we were ok however I saw people get a rude shock

Overall the few pounds you save are not in the slightest worth it. Needless to say we won’t be using this company again

Absolutely appalling experience with Greenmotion. Our vehicle broke down just 45 minutes into the trip. We lost the entire day dealing with the aftermath.

Customer service was non-existent. The roadside agent confirmed the car couldn’t be repaired, but the company still accused us of mishandling it.

When we returned, the staff were rude and dismissive. We couldn’t speak to anyone who took ownership, and the person who seemed in charge refused to help.

One month on, no deposit has been returned. All communication leads to nowhere—emails get bounced around with no resolution.

Don’t be misled by their positive reviews. They pressure customers to leave five stars before any issues arise. We saw multiple scams firsthand. Use a reputable company instead.

Hire van was received clean but had multiple damage on every side, no previous damage, dents, dings, scratches had been repaired. Van returned no issues, no accidents during my rental. Straight away Green Motion front desk guy checks the van over and started hyperventilating with excitement that there was "major damage".

Ref 2 pictures attached:
Tiny hair line crack on rear light, clearly not crashed or broken - found this minor issue straight away - that will be 273 pounds.
Dirt/surface scratch on door next to handle - that will be 640 pounds. No mention of T-cut or polish which would have been sufficient 40 pounds max, look at the picture for yourself...640 pounds
Damage Service fee 75 pounds
Total removed from deposit 988 pounds (deposit was 2500 pounds)

Do yourself a favour and stay well away from Green Motion, pay a bit more and save yourself being scammed upon return

I’m a local and recently my family rented a 9-seater van when they came over to visit. We traveled all over Scotland, and I have to say, the experience was fantastic from start to finish. The vehicle was clean, comfortable, and handled the long distances beautifully.

A special thanks to Robert, who went above and beyond to make sure everything ran smoothly. He was friendly, professional, and incredibly helpful throughout the entire process. It really made a difference having someone so reliable to deal with.

Highly recommend this car rental company—great service, great value, and a great team. Will definitely be using them again in the future!

**HORRIFIC EXPERIENCE PLEASE READ** I would like to make everyone aware of the horrific experience myself and my wife had this morning at Green Motion Servicing - Edinburgh Airport. Last night we booked a hire vehicle which was a basic Fiat 500 no-frills and we opted to pay a premium for additional insurance. After collecting our bags a short walk and a five minute shuttle bus we arrived at Green Motion. The gentleman requested my booking confirmation number, took my Visa debit card, my driving license and requested my national insurance number.

He then gave me the options of which insurance package to choose from? I reminded him that I have prepaid and everything is booked. He then asked me for a credit card?! I explained to him I only have my debit cards. He said because of this the only option for me to proceed was if I paid an additional £800 which was diabolical.

After escalating this to a manager, he explained to me that when I booked the car, I should have opened up the small print scrolled down about three pages and opened up the payment section which then explained to you that you have to have a credit card to be able to use their service. NONE of this was mentioned when they took my money very quickly last night!

We then stepped out the queue and I spent 15 minutes on the phone to Virgin. They swiftly helped me download the app which provided my full credit card details.

I then went back in and queued again, to only be told they now cannot use my credit card and will need to see the physical card back in London.

The two gentleman that served me were as useful as a chocolate teapot and I’m surprised they are even working for a business that should lean heavily on customer service. When I asked for the manager’s Business card, he said he didn’t have one… Strange that I’m not surprised!

He then wrote down on a piece of paper CHARLESTON… I asked him if that was his First name or his last name which he replied that he doesn’t need to give me his first name. You clearly have said that a few times when people have complained!!

They were unable to refund me my money and left me stranded at the airport.

We went back into the terminal where we met with a representative of AVIS. Within 10 minutes, the whole process was complete and I had the keys to my hire vehicle and guess what? No credit card required!

Today’s experience with Green Motion was both unnecessarily stressful and completely and outrightly unprofessional. Thanks to Green Motion we are Ā£200 down and late to my friend’s Wedding. Train your staff to have at least some empathy and not just be a typical conveyor belt misery brand.
