We chose Greenheart, not because they were the cheapest, but because we liked their approach, their way of working and how they employ their people. We were proved right in our assessment!

The build process was complicated with a total refurbishment followed by a large extension which was interrupted by Covid. Greenheart managed our expectations pretty well over the period and we really got on well with the people who worked on our building. They put a huge amount of effort in to deliver the right level of quality in a managed timescale and we are really pleased with the finished product.

It was not without stress but whenever there were issues were were able to talk them through with Greenheart and come to an agreement on how to resolve them which was fair. They kept to their original quotation and only charged us for additional works or changes in specification.

If you are looking for a good quality, well managed project run by people who care about what they do and the satisfaction of the client then I can definitely recommend Greenheart!

From first meeting Richard we felt we could work well with Greenheart. The team were friendly and easy to get on with, consulting us at every stage. The house was pretty much completed according to the schedule first drawn up, with great efficiency in terms of project management. Probably most important however was the quality of the build - we are so pleased with our new home, with all its eco features.

Greenheart built a 3 storey, side extension for us 8 years ago and we are still as delighted with it now as we were when it was completed, within the time frame we'd asked for and within our ballpark budget. While some construction companies seem to quote unrealistically low, we found it very reassuring that we felt we knew where we are at each step of the process. The most striking thing about working with Greenheart is what a collaborative project it was - between us and them, and between all those involved in the construction, working with and for Greenheart. Even when there were difficult problems to solve, and even when the occasional thing went wrong, communication remained excellent, clear, thoughtful and good humoured. The other thing that stands out is the quality of the workmanship and of the finish - not only sustainable, but beautiful too. And it's not only us who like it, but everyone who sees it says how good it looks!

Our Greenheart Experience

We knew nothing about building a new house, and it became clear that we had little idea as to the range and sheer quantity of decisions we would be required to make. And each of those decisions had implications for decisions already made and yet to come!

Fortunately we had an experienced team: an project manager well established as an interior designer, an architect experienced in imaginative and unusual projects, and Greenheart, an eco home-building group.

I think it is impossible to say just how much the Greenheart team helped shape a traumatic building project into such a rewarding one. Richard and Malcolm have spent years building and bringing together flexible teams of specialists. Each team seemed to have an area of expertise that overlapped with other teams. Interaction between the teams was seamless, with every worker understanding their responsibilities completely and each being able to work as a larger “team” member to achieve everything that makes this house such an achievement.

Problems did arise—it would be unrealistic to suppose that there would be no problems. Greenheart worked very closely with us, our project manager and our architect to resolve them during the design phase. Unforeseeable problems—including changes in planning requirements during the building phase—were frustrating but smoothly managed by Greenheart. They responded to new design requirements and adapted the building programme to accommodate these changes.

Our new house is so much better than we could have imagined it to be 2 years ago! Unusual and certainly bespoke, it provides us with a wonderful living experience for the next stage of our lives. Greenheart was the builder that made that possible for us!
