Called Fedurco drainage after discovering a blocked mains drain, he answered the phone promptly, was extremely polite and arrived to us within an hour of my call. The service was fantastic, very speedy and efficient all while being done with smile! My drain was so blocked it pushed up the drain cover which due to an extension is in our utility room. Rang at 3pm and had someone look at by just gone 4. He gave me a quote which was exactly what i was charged he spent so much time cleaning up which was as he said it would be an absolute mess he cleaned down all my floors and walls he ran a camera threw my drains to show the state of them and the fact they were now all clear, absolutly first rate service would recomend,

I contacted Local Drainage Solutions, the online website and agent for Fedurco Limited, on their website form on 30th March 2024.
This was a bank holiday weekend and I gave an outline of the issue. This was a blocked drain that could not be cleared with rods.
I said this was not urgent as the drain had obviously been blocked for a while.

Within 5 minutes of submitting the online contact form, Jan (owner of Fedurco Limited) rung me.
He said he would come out the following day (Easter Sunday)
I asked what the call out charge would be, as I was concerned about out of hours charges. Jan advised that there were no call out charges, so I agreed to the visit the following morning.

Jan turned up at 9.10am and assessed the work required.
He then gave me a price on the doorstep. I questioned why it was so expensive and he told me it was because he would have to use the CCTV in the drain.
I needed to give a decision there and then, and Jan was on site and the job needed doing, so I gave the go ahead for the work. I trusted that Jan was giving me a competitive price.

Jan was on-site for just under 2 hours and used the camera, lifted up some decking boards and jet washed the drain. The work seems to be in order and I have no complaint about this.

My issue is, that when I told a couple of friends the price, they thought it was well over the top price wise and urged me to check the price charged was correct.

Accordingly, I got quotes from 3 other drain companies for the same out of hours services, to include; CCTV, jet washing and degreasing, lifting some decking boards and drain maintenance advice, to take 2 hours (same as Jan).

The quotes given by the 3 independent drain companies, including the market leader, were costed at £300.00 inclusive VAT. This was the most expensive price out of the 3 independent drain companies.

I wish I could tell you that this is what Jan of Fedurco Limited/LDS charged me but….now wait for it……..I was charged a stomach churning £804.00!!!!
So, I was charged £500.00 more for the same service provided by leading competitors.

In turn, I emailed LDS to advise them that they had made a mistake with my bill.
Unfortunately, Paul from LDS confirmed that this was the correct charge.
I asked them to give me a partial refund of £400.00 (inclusive VAT) which is still £100.00 more than the other 3 quotes.
However, they refused, and to add insult to financial injury, I was told that if I leave a negative review, Jan would take legal action against me (this has been threatened in two separate emails)

Also, please note that Jan of Fedurco Limited is not necessarily local to you. LDS/Fedurco are based in Chatham, some 50 minutes away from me. I would never have knowingly asked a company so far away to attend.

I have also seen since found out (6th April 2024) after telephoning Southern Water and then having a site visit that the drain concerned is an adopted drain as it is shared, and no work should have been carried out on this drain as it is Southern Water's responsibility, and no charges would have been raised had Jan advised me correctly, as was his duty, that the water company was responsible for the drain concerned.

I have all of the above in writing and can prove everything. This company is a complete rip off and I'm £800 out of pocket, which I can ill afford.

So please be careful people.
Obviously, with the benefit of hindsight I should have said no to the doorstep price, but foolishly trusted Jan when I shouldn’t have done, to my extreme cost.
I am now having to take further legal advice.

Update:
Despite Fedurco/LDS stating many times that the drain was my responsibility, Southern Water have reimbursed me in full, because to unblock my drain, Southern Water's drain had to be accessed. Fedurco/LDS should have advised me of this but instead they charged me £804.00 for work that would have been free if done by Southern Water. Dreadful company, steer well clear.

So much better than other companies! Jaun was great; polite, efficient, and experienced. The blockage was gone in less than 20m with no mess, unlike previous companies. He also took time to explain what we can do to fix the problem in the future if it comes back! Very happy and have added them to contacts.
