I've had solar panels, battery, new consumer unit and solar compatible EV charger installed. Unlike some of the bigger firms I initially approached, I had a quick response and site visit and was happy with the competitive quotation. I'd rather go with local companies than national companies that sub-contract the work.
The whole process took about a week and was well project managed. They turned up when they said they would (which is a big plus in my mind) and worked hard all day. The completed job is neat and tidy and I am very pleased. They paid great attention to detail, even down to having a few drilled bricks replaced. Nathan and James have been great throughout.
Since installation, I have hardly needed to use any electricity from the grid - the house runs on solar generation during the day and the battery kicks in overnight. High power equipment like my shower does need extra power from the grid - but a shower that would have cost 80p from the grid alone, is now costing less than 20p on my higher daytime tariff, and even less if the panels are still actively generating. I image that as we move into winter, I might need to top up the battery from the grid occasionally, during my low tariff hours.
I have had some issues with the car charger reporting frequent error messages on sunny days and cutting out when I am trying to charge on solar. I've not had any problems with scheduled overnight charging, so I am convinced there is nothing wrong with the charger itself or the installation. James has helped liaise with the car charger manufacturer and called out SP Energy networks to try to resolve this problem. The issue seems to be with my incoming voltage, which is always quite high (around 250V) because my house is close to the transformer. The charger has a safety cut-out at 253V and my incoming voltage often exceeds this (was abut 257V for several hours one day) - according to SP Energy networks it's the fault of people who have solar panels dumping excess power onto the network when it's sunny! Rather ironic when I am trying to use that excess power to charge my vehicle, but instead it ends up being dumped on to the network because the charger has tripped out. Then SP Energy networks tried to blame car charger manufacturers for setting their safety voltages too low. SP Energy networks are only required to do something to regulate my voltage if the incoming voltage is over their upper limit for 5% of the time, so I don't have any confidence that SP Energy networks will do anything to help.
There is a solution, which I will investigate in the spring and will be more than happy to call NJ Solar and Renewables to install the extra bit of kit needed to optimise my incoming voltage.
If you are considering having a charger installed, it might be an idea to monitor your incoming voltage and budget to have a voltage optimiser fitted. For most people this probably won't be an issue - I am just unfortunate to be close to the transformer and have quite a few people on the street with solar panels. Certainly something the network operators have to think about as more and more people are opting for solar and getting electric vehicles.
Overall, I have absolutely no complaints about Nathan and James - my car charger issues are nothing to do with either the hardware or their installation - and would definitely recommend them.

My solar company told me that the breaker in my consumer unit was unfit for purpose. The original solar installer was uncontactable despite several attempts. I contacted James at NJ Solar and rather than dismiss my request as too small a job or refuse because they didn't do the original install, came out within 4 days (awaiting part) and rectified my issue which maintained my warranty with GE.
The work was completed very tidily and at a fair price. I would use NJ Solar again without question.
