8 years ago , we moved in to this property and there was a half hourly meter installed. Rather than remove it, Opus said we will only charge you roughly a pound and then it can stay in there. They knew my energy consumption was very little and if I moved it would benefit the next tennant/themselves.
Fast forward to last year, I was out out contract and they were billing me almost £17 a day for the meter. If I signed a contract- £13. This company refused to down grade the meter as they are making fortunes off situations like mine.

I’m still out of contract almost a year trying to downgrade and it’s cost me in excess money f Ā£5k in standing charges. I’m not the sort of person to leave reviews, but now I’m at a point where I should share my experiences with Opus.
An engineer from Haste came out and I told him I’m happy for him to disconnect the electric from the property. He rang Opus and they told him even if he did , I would still be liable for the standing charges, even though I’m out of contract. It’s absolutely disgraceful and the fact I’m writing this review is a testament to the point I’m at. Enough is enough. I would be better off defaulting on the payments and at least they would happily disconnect me. Then I can put a generator in at my own cost which I’m happy to do. All the time your paying your bills, they are trapping by you into a monthly payment because they know you can’t risk your credit rating falling!
Personally I don’t recommend Opus.

Absolutely shocking this company. They have dug up outside our house 3times because they keep forgetting to connect us to this all new electric cabling rubbish. The second time they came they came to look out our electric box / meter and broke the door to it because it was locked. When we told the rep the 3rd time they came out all we got was a abrupt attitude saying it is wear and tear and that opus is not liable for it. So forcing a door open is now classed as wear and tear to them which is absolutely crazy. Rang head office to make a complaint on 12/12/24 and promised a phone call back which I am still waiting for because every time it rains the electric box is getting wet and it is entering our damp course for the house.

Very bad experience with them.we use there service over 3 years until there not supply gas service, last bill in last day they made near £2000 for us, and tried contacting them to explain and paid by phone the correct bill,the service staff promised no any problems also sent to me receipt to confirm.they still sent letter to us to pay wrong bill. We used over few hours to waiting line talking and ..... Since February till now ,and now they ask credit company to chase us , horrible!!!! We are not own any penny to you,why you make so worse service? Nobody replied email and Telephone service not give any help.
My supplier is British gas now they tried connecting with them as well the last day they give big bill not belonging to opus should be the first day in British gas,they make big trouble to us we need spending time to resolve and explain,but now over 6 months the problem still here.

The best thing Opus ever did for me as a customer was sell my account to EDF.
I have an old, redundant meter that they were charging me monthly standing charges for even though it’s not in use and told me they would continue to charge unless I paid Ā£2000 to have it removed.
EDF are removing it for free off their own back, no questions asked!
Terrible company. Awful prices. Even worse customer service.

Emma was incredibly polite, professional and helpful, she had all of the information to hand and dealt with it efficiently - something I have been trying to resolve for 2 months was resolved by her in a call that was less than 10 minutes long! Just signed upto Opus.

Their commission is £2000.
Put simply I’m paying Ā£2000 more for my electric than I should be.

Unfortunately this is just a tip off.

It’s not surprising that you get so many spam calls and emails asking for your electric contract, it’s clearly a ripoff.

Why you can’t go direct and just get the best price I don’t know.

Ā£2000 of my money has gone to these ā€œmark up merchantsā€.

Bad Experience Turned Around by Janette Poulter

My overall experience with Opus Energy was quite bad at first. I dealt with overcharging issues and was sent bills for a different property, which led to a lot of frustration. To make things worse, the initial customer service I received from a representative named Sara was unhelpful and left me feeling like I had to chase them for every little thing. It was a very stressful and disappointing situation.

However, my view of Opus Energy completely changed thanks to Janette Poulter. She stepped in and handled everything with professionalism and care. Janette resolved the issues quickly and made sure I was kept in the loop throughout the process. Her attention to detail and commitment to resolving my problems turned a terrible situation into a much better experience.

Thanks to Janette, I now have a more positive opinion of Opus Energy, and it's all because of her excellent customer service. If it weren't for her, I would have remained deeply dissatisfied.
