I worked through the recruitment agency Prestige Recruitment in Hull at the Cranswick Convenience Foods Sutton Fields meat factory.

1. Terrible Working Conditions
Prestige Recruitment cannot offer proper employment. They treat people like trash, disrespect employees, and their work.

2. Payment Fraud
The agency systematically cheats workers out of money. They may not pay legal holiday pay or fail to account for worked hours. When you notice and point out the issue, they pretend it's a "system error," but these cases happen constantly.

3. Attitude Toward Workers
They treat employees with complete disregard. They don’t value you, and your time means nothing to them. I was exploited and assigned the most difficult job in the freezer at -20°C, without being provided the free warm clothing that was supposed to be given according to the contract. When I pointed this out, they claimed that this clause in the contract was no longer valid.

4. Disregard for Medical Prescriptions
I had medical documentation stating that I should not lift heavy objects. However, despite this, they brought containers of meat weighing 800 kg every 30 minutes. Over the course of a 12-hour shift (720 minutes), I unloaded 19.2 tons of meat, while weighing only 50 kg. My requests to be transferred to another position were ignored, although other workers were easily transferred to lighter duties.

5. Irresponsibility and Disorganization
Constantly, when I arrived at work at 5 a.m., the recruiter from Prestige would tell me to wait in the canteen until 6 a.m., and then she would tell me whether I was working or had a day off. I would wait until 6 a.m., sometimes even until 9 a.m., and then they would tell me they had forgotten about me. I had to search for the recruiter to find out what I needed to do. This went on for several days straight. In these situations, I lost a lot of time, but the agency didn’t care to inform employees on time, which caused huge inconvenience and additional stress.

6. Work Incident
I fell headfirst onto concrete because the cleaner was not doing their job and didn’t clean up. I slipped on meat and hit my head, injuring my arm and tendons. The staff was unable to provide medical assistance and took me to the managers' office. I asked them to call an ambulance, but they told me it would take 3 hours, even though we were not far from the city center. This was done to avoid documenting the incident. Instead of an ambulance, they just called a taxi, took me to the hospital, and the worker left immediately after dropping me off, even though by law, he should have stayed with me until the situation was clarified or until someone from my family or trusted persons arrived. I had a severe concussion, I was vomiting, but no medical help was provided on-site.

I worked with Prestige a few months ago, and at first, I was impressed—especially with Magda, who was kind and supportive of my situation. She helped me feel valued and understood.

Unfortunately, once I started the job at Cranswick High Risk Poultry, things took a serious turn. The coordinators Alina and Georgiana did not listen to concerns or provide support. I reported several serious issues, including being insulted in Russian by some of the Polish staff, and being shouted at in a hostile way, even in front of people I was supposed to train. Despite reporting this behavior, nothing was done.

On top of that, my electric bike was stolen from the workplace property. Rather than contacting site security, they simply told me to call the police myself. There was a complete lack of professionalism and responsibility. The coordinators didn’t even show me the factory or explain the job—I had to figure everything out on my own. They also asked us to sign procedures for machines we didn’t use, which felt deeply dishonest.

As the only Romanian on the team, I felt isolated, yet I still trained others who didn’t speak English. There was no respect for workers, and basic dignity was ignored. Prestige might have a good reputation in Hull, but those particular coordinators were not doing their jobs.

Worst work experience I’ve ever had.
