Deep gratitude goes to all the people whose hard work kept this station alive – their dedication and strength became part of the Midlands’ story. Times are changing, and a new chapter begins – one of clean energy and care for our environment. Yet we will always remember those who built the future with their hands and their labour.

The Ratcliffe-on-Soar Power Station is an impressive landmark with a striking presence on the Nottinghamshire skyline. Its cooling towers are iconic and easily recognisable, especially when lit up at night. While primarily an industrial site, it represents decades of engineering achievement and reliable power generation. Though not the most scenic attraction, it has historic significance and remains an interesting feature of the local landscape.

Saw this solemnly stunning site from spring lakes, and immediately told my comrades of what I saw. Truly a reminder of Great Britain's power and innovation that everyone can enjoy. My lone criticism is the lack of smoke, always thought green was good these days but apparently not greenhouse gases, makes no sense to me.

Drove past this majestic testament to electricity with my fiancée and a friend. It immediately brought smiles to our faces but that smile was bittersweet.

We were bitterly disappointed that there was no smoke. This immediately ruined our holiday. It is good to hear that there is no smoke as the station turns to the greener solution of hydrogen but this only slightly sweetens the bitter pill that is lack of smoke.

Told my kids we were going to see Homer Simpson’s workplace today, but there was no smoke and now both of them are crying. How can this be? It doesnt make any sense… I still appreciated the delicate and smooth nature of the architecture. More smoke next time though please!

Edit: Just heard that the power station is closing down. Its a national travesty. Thinking of getting some money together to buy and reopen it as a paintball arena! Get in contact with me if you want to get involved.

Amazing beauty of human engineering, unrivalled by any creation known to mankind, and yet I see strange small dwellers inside, roaming its empty interior in the same way its memories roam my empty heart. With no smoke, its soul seems sucked out of it the same way its carbon monixide suck out the breathable air out of my lungs.

Either some fantastic filters have been installed, or it simply has no workforce (hence no smoke). Yet the inhabitants of this strange land persist on remaining set on their instructions set out by you know who.

I love how eco-friendly this power station is. All of these dwellers of the plants from distant nations are pleased with the pristine concrete condition. However, I am displeased. Please improve.

I adore the intricate geometrical design of this powerplant! It's quite the sight from my backyard. Unfortunately, I sometimes hear shrieks of distress coming from the core of the facility. My son Jeremiah skibidison went missing 2 days ago and has not been seen since. I will assert my revenge soon.

IF WE STILL HAVE COAL POWEPLANTS, THEN WHY DID THAT WITCH, CLOSE DOWN THE COAL MINES!!!! MY FATHER LOST HIS JOB AND MY BROTHER WENT TO PRISON AND FOR WHAT? THOSE BUGGERS BETRAYED US!!!!

A long and monotonous journey from Oxfordshire up yonder north was gloriously punctured by the viewing of this marvel of British engineering, a beacon of hope, stirring within all who gaze upon its beauty a longing of our return to the glory days of Great Britains illustrious past, and the relighting of our recently extinguished coal-powered torches.

The lack of the final star is due to the thick mist present on our day of viewing, rendering the presence of any of the stations sacred smoke unknown. Till next time sweet architectural sugarplum x

I first became aware of the power station when travelling north on the EMR to Sheffield - I was taken by surprise as the train whooshed past the towering chimneys. At first I was impressed. The brickwork momentarily distracted my fragile mind from the cozzie livs, and took me to a place of admiration and awe. However, on closer inspection, the sorry excuse for stilts at the bottom of the structure became clear, and the once-impressive brickwork showed severe signs of aging and damage. To top it all off, there was no smoke. Which, as you can imagine, was a huge disappointment for myself and my fellow passengers on the east side of the train. All in all I won’t be paying this power station another visit. Unless they put the smoke on.
