I buy a LOT from this shop and just wanted to say they are great. Spent a good few thousand over the years here and they really do have excellent staff. While it is a shame smaller hardware stores can't compete, you just couldn't get the range screwfix had from a single tiny shop, however if the service wasn't small-shop-ish then I wouldn't use them, but the thing is - at the axminster branch at least - it just IS that good. Had another exemplary experience yesterday - returning a faulty item. A titan table saw, which has actually been excellent, especially if you factor in the dirt cheap price. But the motor did blow (I've had a lot of titan kit before and this is a first, so don't take this as a bad review of the budget brand, they are typically just fine, as long as you don't push them too hard or expect bosch-like duty cycles), and it was in warranty. They went through a little procedure of course, just to make sure I wasn't just trying to rip them off, but it was all very honest and friendly and I wasn't made to feel 'guilty' for returning something (which certainly has happened at places like Tesco). And as it was a very common item they actually had one in stock so could instantly replace it. Anyway, great staff maketh the shop. Obviously they aren't perfect and if I wanted to nitpick I could, but it wouldn't be with their staff or their products (their order pickup process which involves typing in a hugmongous number into an iPad is a bit silly, but thankfully the staff happily ignore it and agree instantly and use the old procedure of them accepting a 4 digit number 99% of the time, so it doesn't actually affect me, perhaps twice I think I had to do that, but I think the staff all now know that no one can be bothered and they all just ignore the silly iPads (someone in middle management surely got a nice bonus for a dumb idea... we've all seen that happen!))

Anyway, thanks screwfix, hope you keep going and keep the hiring policy or the branch manager making the decisions etc., and hope you keep the policies in place which make customers feel they are in a 'local shop' despite having an insanely huge catelogue to choose from.

My experience was pretty bad I only went in for a spindle bar for a patio door and I might as well have just gone online and search the web site to myself because instead of having the knowledge or going in the back to find something the person that served me just started searching the internet on Google and also entering the Screwfix website so it was either lack of knowledge or CBA!
Either way I felt as though I was in the way and other people could have been served... So did the assistant by the way and instead of concentrating on me and satisfying my need or rejecting the thought of a perspective purchase she started to serve people in between looking through the internet and looking very confused.
If I was a treatment I would have been extremely disappointed because I expect expert knowledge

Only popped in to collect some cable ties I ordered on the app. Was greeted by a friendly member of staff as soon as I entered the store and they had my collection ready in under a minute. Would highly recommend for all your DIY needs.

Lily is a real delight she was rude and childish and made me feel like I was unable to go back. I spoke to manager on shift whose excuse for her behaviour in front of him not being dealt with was that he is new and unsure of his own job.
