So pleased with the solar system that Tim installed for me I have now asked him to install a battery backup to supplement the installation. First class system project managed by Tim himself.
Thank you, Tim and your team, of experts. Back up battery storage system now installed by Tim and as expected perfect! and if I want additional storage capacity Tim can install an additional unit or two, very flexible system! .... all this competively priced .

After many years of sterling service it became clear that our solar thermal installation was in need of a major overhaul, well; to be honest, it needed replacing. And with the advent of cold fill washing machines one of the big advantages was lost when we had to replace our old hot fill machine with one that use expensive electricity to heat water rather than use the hot water heated by the solar thermal system.

The time had come to move to a solar EV system and we started getting quotes. Several companies actually provided full system quotes without even visiting us, which seemed a bit odd and we disregarded them immediately.

And then met Tim Fitzgerald from Smarter Green Energy.

Tim is passionate about the benefits and importance of utilising solar power and spent a lot of time listening to our requirements. He explaining what he thought would suit us, given our circumstances and the orientation of the roof, 130 degrees approximately east south east, hardly ideal but with modern solar panels good enough to be cost effective.

We decided on a 12 panel system without batteries but with an Eddi, to direct surplus energy into the hot water immersion heater.

We were surprised to be told that the installation would only take one day but thought we’d believe that when we saw it but having made the decision, we saw no virtue in delay and signed the contract on 31st August.

Tim kept us fully advised re progress; surveys were arranged, the electricians made a thorough inspection of the property, explained what would be installed and where, with no problems being envisaged.

The the day before installation the scaffolding was erected, another surprisingly quick operation, with every effort being made to inconvenience us as little as possible.

On the day itself, 12th October 2023, the weather could have been kinder but the first van arrived before 8.00 a.m. and by 4 p.m. everyone had left, job done. We even generated a little power!

Once he was happy with the installation Tim arranged for the removal of the scaffolding and returned a few days later with all the paperwork including warranty.

Since installation we have became obsessed with checking the various apps to see how much power our new solar panels are generating.

The only down side of the installation was actually getting a contract to export surplus energy back to our supplier, Octopus Energy. Because we hadn't already got a working Smart Meter, that took 3 months, persistence and several emails.

Despite the generally dreadful weather this winter, on 26th March 2024 we passed the 1MWh of clean solar energy generated by our Smarter Green Energy installation. With over 23.5KWh generated on 26th March, so we have high hopes for the rest of the year.

We are now exporting back to the grid most days, which always makes me smile.

As Tim explained, to get the most out of your PV system takes a little effort, try to utilise as much of your home generated power as possible. Simple things help, like changing your kettle for one with a smaller element, it may take a little longer to boil but it may also mean that you can more often power it from your roof rather than have to buy in expensive mains power.
