Spent a couple of interesting and educational hours at the UK's first and only Geothermal site. Activities and presentation by Suzie and Jane were first rate and kept the scouts in our group engaged.

Not generally open to the public but they arrange specific 'drop in' days - see website for dates.
Situated in the what must be the scrapyard capital of Cornwall, everything in the visitor area was surprisingly neat and tidy, refreshments provided and even (clean) loos.
Informative displays and videos with knowledgeable staff on hand to enlighten further. The highlight has to be the viewing platform overlooking the rig that is drilling the deepest hole in Cornwall - 4000 metres at time of visit 16th march 2019.

Just viewed it from the outside, but this is great for Cornwall, we could have been leaders of geothermal energy in this country by now, if we, and Cornwall County Council had pressurised the government in the mid, seventies not to pull the plug on funding to keep the Longdowns project going.
We have all this free energy under our feet going to waste, i think we would have been ahead of the game by now, instead 40 years lost.
I should imagine directional drilling basics are still the same, but perhaps advances in technology are helping.
Being a engineer of nearly 50 years who worked in mining and oil exploration, I would have loved to have been part of this project.
Well done Cornwall. ?
Don't throw this opportunity away.
